WHY KASHMIR WAS SO SPECIAL FOR RISHI KAPOOR
The Kapoor family is regarded as one of Bollywood’s most powerful families. All of the Kapoors, from Prithviraj to Ranbir, have a strong connection to Kashmir. In Kashmir, Prithviraj Kapoor used to do theatre for two months, while Raj Kapoor was the first filmmaker to shoot a film there, ‘Barsaat,’ which was his second directorial endeavour.
Rishi Kapoor began his acting career with the film Bobby, which was shot in Kashmir. Kashmir holds a particular place in his heart. When Rishi returned to Kashmir after a lengthy absence, he felt nostalgic.

Kashmir was always close to the late actor’s heart. Even when he returned to the valley in 2011 for the wedding of Imtiyaz Ali’s brother, he found it to be as lovely as it had been decades before.
In an interview, Rishi said, “Very few places in the world provide as much variation as Kashmir.” “There’s a lot of variation here. It is a beautiful virgin. This is a realm where passion reigns supreme.
When it came to Kashmir, the actor had a lot of stories to tell. “When we were shooting for Bobby in Pahalgam, it started snowing,” he stated in one of the interviews. “This place has so much to offer,” he adds, “so we incorporated that snow sequence as well.”

Bobby Cabin is a hut in Gulmarg, Kashmir, where the iconic song ‘Chabi Kho Jaye’ from Rishi’s debut film ‘Bobby’ was filmed. The cottage’s owner, Hotel Highland Park, tweeted a photo of Rishi standing outside the hut, expressing its sorrow at the actor’s death.
Rishi admired the Kashmir of the 1970s because it was tranquil, peaceful, and less congested.
When he returned to the valley, he felt nostalgic. He snapped pictures of everything and forwarded them to his friends and family. “…I was like a kid capturing pictures with my Blackberry and BBMing them to my friends and relatives,” the actor explained in the interview.
He wanted to work in the valley more regularly because it was the setting for his first commercially successful film.

“I thought circumstances like this only happened in movies where a man interacts with his history, but lo and behold, it’s all true!” This is Gulmarg, Kashmir, the place that shaped me into the person I am today. Kashmir has always held a special place in my heart and I am indebted to it. I’m overjoyed that Ranbir shot in Kashmir for Rockstar!”
For Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, Kashmir also served as a cupid. The pair collaborated on the film ‘Kabhi Kabhie,’ which was filmed in the valley.
Vicky from Kabhi Kabhie was in Kashmir, rolling in the gleaming white snow of Gulmarg while singing love songs in a bright cardigan, and then he fell in love with Pinky both in the film and in real life.
The actor has always felt that his family has a profound connection to Kashmir and is related to the valley’s soil.
